The Silence of the Night: Why Waking Up at 4 AM Calls for True Physical Grounding

Hello my dear ones,

Today I read a fascinating article about the spiritual and psychological meaning of suddenly waking up at 4 AM in the morning. Many of us know this phenomenon only too well: The house is absolutely quiet, the world is sleeping deeply and soundly, yet we suddenly startle out of our sleep. Often this specific time is interpreted as a phase of internal cleansing or as a wake-up call from our soul. But far away from all mysticism, this nocturnal awakening is in the vast majority of cases a very clear signal from our own body that our highly sensitive nervous system is looking for true relief.

The Nocturnal Processing and the Inner Space

During the day we continuously distract ourselves, function in everyday life, and push our deepest needs to the side. But in the absolute silence of the night, this protective distraction disappears completely. If our system was under massive tension all day long, the subconscious takes over the sole leadership in the early morning hours. The abrupt awakening is often the result of unresolved stress that is now unstoppably making its way to the surface. In this dark hour, our mind desperately searches for an unshakeable basis on which it can safely rest and finally calm its racing thoughts.

Physical Grounding Against the Mental Restlessness

Exactly at this point, the enormous importance of our physical foundation reveals itself completely. Whoever loses contact with the natural ground throughout the entire day, because the feet are pressed into artificial and much too tight plastic shoes, separates themselves from their most important source of grounding. This physical isolation manifests itself at night as profound mental restlessness. If, however, we give our body the freedom of a wide toe box and pure, renewable raw materials during the day, we give it back a deep inner peace. A foot that stands securely and naturally on the earth continuously sends signals of safety to the brain, which ultimately lets us sleep much more deeply and peacefully at night as well.

An Unshakeable Trust in Your Very Own Basis

We must learn again to give our body exactly the conditions that it imperatively needs for a complete regeneration. Instead of restlessly wandering back and forth at night or letting ourselves be overwhelmed by worries, we may quite consciously work on our natural foundation. Whoever cultivates a deep confidence during the day and does not allow themselves to be pressed into artificial shapes, builds up an extremely strong protective shield against stress. When we stand firmly on both feet and trust completely in the pure power of nature, the nocturnal restlessness transforms all by itself into a healthy, restful sleep.

All the best,

Yours Jutta Arntz
